9th March - 10th March: MT IRON MEGA CHALLENGE
Wānaka may not have a Mt Cargill but we do have Mt Iron!! And what better place to get some extra vert in for #summitchallenge this March?
You guessed right, we’re doing one whole day (yes, that’s a total of 24 hours) of lapping Mt Iron.
You guessed right, we’re doing one whole day (yes, that’s a total of 24 hours) of lapping Mt Iron.
Nitty Gritty:
• Kinisi Running will be open for the entire 24 hours serving as a base for the festivities.
• Each summit of Mt Iron must start and finish at the shop.
• Time stamped photographic evidence must be provided to add a summit to your total and the official leaderboard.
• You can come and go and do as many or as few laps as you would like.
• Everyone can set their own goals however, there will be an honorary status for anyone who completes 24 laps in 24 hours.
• We will have spot prizes and you’re guaranteed to be in for 24 hours of fun!
So come along, hang out and get some vert in.
UPDATE:
We wanted to clarify a couple of things that may be still unclear.
Firstly, this is a community event. Absolutely everyone is welcome! You can ‘just’ walk one lap with your kids in tow, take the dog, grab some friends or whatever else floats your boat. We love to see it, support it and be part of it. So please come and join us. Just remember that if you want your summit to count to the total please start and finish at the shop. There is plenty of parking and you can leave anything you might not want to drag up there with us.
Secondly (and for the crazy runners out there), we are counting summits. Whether you want to do actual loops or head up and down the front track is totally up to you.
We will crown the most summits accumulated. So if you think you can do 30 summits in 24 hours: GO FOR IT!
IMPORTANT:
This is an unofficial event. There is no support or aid station on the trail. Everyone is responsible for their own safety and wellbeing. So please take care crossing the roads, take plenty of water, sunscreen, suitable clothing and shoes, and any food or snacks you may need.
For those planning on going through the night, the shop will be open for the entirety of the challenge. Fatigue will set in especially in those late night and early morning hours. If you think you might need support please let someone at the shop know. You can always warm up, rest and have a nap before heading back out. This is a fun challenge but we all want to be safe and look out for each other.
